Want to quickly send a bonus to a desk pod? Recognize a whole table in the cafeteria? Run house points across your school? Groups let you organize students so sending transactions is a breeze, with no more clicking students one by one! 🎉
Groups are available with ClassBank Pro and the School subscription.
Ideas for using groups
🪑 Table groups or desk pods: reward the table that cleaned up first
🏠 Houses or teams: run house points with friendly competition
🍎 Cafeteria or recess: recognize a whole lunch table at once
📦 Store delivery: organize students by homeroom to make school store distribution easier
How do I create a group?
Open your class and go to the Groups tab
Click Add Group
Select Create a new group to select individual students
Select Import group(s) to create groups with an Excel upload
Name your group and add your students
Pro Tip: Use names that are easy to tell apart, like "Table 1 - Gracey," especially if your school also uses school-wide groups.
How do I send a transaction to a group?
Just click the group's card! 👆 The same send transaction window you already know will pop up, so you can send a bonus, fine, expense, or salary to everyone in that group.
How do I import groups from a spreadsheet?
On the Groups tab, click Add Group and select Import group(s)
Download the Excel (.xlsx) template
Fill in each student's group name and their username or email (either works in the same column, no toggle needed!)
Upload your file
Good to know about imports:
👋 If a student already has a ClassBank account at your school but isn't in this class yet, the import option "Create groups and add missing students" will add them to your class and their group.
🚫 Imports never create new student accounts. If a username or email doesn't match a student, that student is skipped and we'll tell you how many students couldn't be matched.
✏️ Imports never change the students in an existing group. To make big changes, delete the group and upload it again.
How do I edit or delete a group?
Click the edit icon in the upper right corner of the group card
Select Edit group to rename it, search for a student, or remove students. Or select Delete group.
Filtering by group
📌 Groups tab: Use the group filter to show just the groups you use most. ClassBank remembers your selection the next time you visit, even after you close the tab!
👀 Students tab: In list view, a new Group column shows every group each student belongs to. Use the group filter to show only students in certain groups.
School-wide groups (School subscription)
Admins can create school-wide groups, like houses or grade levels, from their admin view. Teachers see both school-wide groups and their own class groups in each class.
When you send a transaction to a school-wide group from your class, it only goes to the members of that group who are in your class. For example, sending house points to Gryffindor only reaches the Gryffindors in your room. 🦁
These transactions are labeled with the group name instead of a class, so they won't show up when you filter All Transactions by class.
FAQs
Can students see their groups?
No. Groups are only visible to teachers and admins. Note: if you use student bankers they will be able to see groups.
Who can manage groups?
Teachers and co-teachers can create, edit, import, and delete groups in their classes. Student Bankers and HR Managers can view groups but can't manage them or send transactions to them.
What happens to my groups if I archive a class?
Groups are archived along with the class.
What if I'm on the Free plan?
You'll see the Groups tab with an option to upgrade.
